how do i make sure my new partitions are active?

i just created /usr and /home did the fstab thing and now when i look in info center they dont appear like / does showing mb useage ect. how do i make sure the partitions are active?

Assuming you didn't reboot then you must manually mount them... ie:

mount /usr
mount /home

If you did set the auto flag in your fstab, it should automatically mount on your next boot.
