How do I change the kernel modules in a custom Slackware-current DVD?

Sup.

Just a quick question. As of right now I am on the verge of creating my own custom Slackware Install DVD. I'm planning to include ZFS as a built-in module into my kernel because I want to run Slackware on my server. Linux software RAID sucks, so that is no option for me.

I've already figured out how to replace the kernel and the packages for the installer but I haven't found anything about changing the live DVD kernel modules.

Does anybody have an idea how to accomplish this?

Linux software RAID has worked well for me on a variety of machines and disk drive (and SSD) configurations for many years.

Other than your pornographic description could you summarize in a sentence or two why SW RAID isn't your preference. I'd like to know so that I can consider your points when I'm planning my next RAID system.

Perhaps it lacks features you want and I don't need. Lately I've become intrigued by ZFS.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but other LQ members may also be interested.

Thanks.

I suggest that you begin reading this FAQ: https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/wiki/FAQ.

Maybe someone having a practical experience using ZFS on Slackware will step in and tell you more.

If you are referring to my "liveslak" based Live ISO, that does not have an option to use your own kernel and modules. But it should not be hard to implement.
If you send me a working patch I will have a look. Or else it will probably be implemented somewhere in the future if I think of it.

ZFS shouldn't be too hard to implement, but you should built it modular and load the kernel with the ZFS and SPL modules in the initrd. Follow the guide as best you can, but be prepared that ZFS may not work. It's been a mixed bag for me trying to get it as a native file system, and honestly, you're better off with BtrFS, JFS, and Ext* partitions for the operating system. You could manage your users and groups data in /home with ZFS quite effectively though.
