[SOLVED] How do I change the default video player?

I use MC for most of my file exploring, but I would like it to use VLC instead of xime when I open a video. Right now I just run vlc on the file, but I'm not sure if there's some config file out there that makes it do it automatically. I use fluxbox, slackware 14.2.

mc should use xdg-open so you can check the file type

$ xdg-mime query filetype whatever.mkv
video/x-matroska

and then set vlc as the default helper for that type of file
