How do I add vmlinuz-ide-2.4.31 to LILO

Hi,

I upgraded the default 10.2 kernel to the 2.6.13 provided in CD#2. It worked great out of the gates, but would like to have the default 2.4.31 as a backup entry when I boot my laptop.

Right now config points to config-generic-2.6.13, System.map points to System.map.generic-2.6.13, and vmlinuz points to vmlinuz-generic-2.6.13 in /boot. The default files are still there, but I'm not quite sure what symlinks I need to make for the System.map-ide-2.4.31.

I made the following symlinks already

config.old --> config-ide-2.4.31
vmlinuz.old --> vmlinuz-ide-2.4.31

I'm already familiar with creating the necessary entries in lilo.conf. I just need to know what to call the symlink for System.map-ide-2.4.31. Or is it at all needed?

Thanks.

You probably dont need any extra symlinks. I have always appended the kernel version to the original file names and never had a problem.
I usually just use the long name in lilo.conf, viz:

image = /boot/vmlinuz-ide-2.4.31
root = /dev/hda1
label = Linux_2.4.31
read-only

Ofcourse, you'd change to suit your setup (e.g. may not be hda1) and run /sbin/lilo. Note that the top entry in lilo.conf will be the "default".
