How do i access cdrom?

Hi,
i am so bloody new and using Slack 10.2

would somebody be so nice to help me accessin my
cdrom drive from cmdline and/or within fluxbox ?
"cd /etc"
"vi fstab" tells me this :
/dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda6 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/hda2 /winhda2fat16 vfat defaults 1 0
/dev/hda7 /datahda7fat32 vfat defaults 1 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,owner,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0

when i do "cd /mnt/cdrom"
"dir"
nothing is displayed, cd is in the drive
but the system accesses the cdrom from within xfce or kde using the filemanagers

please helpme into this shoe

Code:
mount /mnt/cdrom
is what you need to type, you might have to "su" to superuser though. after its mounted try to "cd" to the directory again.

also when you are done you should type

Code:
umount /mnt/cdrom
to unmount and safely remove the disc

hmmm, is this a work around or the way to be ?

well
i opend a console by pressin crtl+alt+F2
then i looged in as root and mounted the cdrom
afterwards switched back to the xWindow by pressing crtl+alt+F7
so the cdrom drive would be accessible with the midnight commander? mc from within
fluxbox

If you want to have your CD-ROM mounted every time you boot your system, then change the word "noauto" to "auto" in the options list on the line for your CD-ROM in your fstab file. If you want to be able to mount and unmount as a normal user, then add users to the option list. You'll be able to mount and anyone else can unmount. You could add user (note there's no "s"!), then if you mounted the device only you would be able to unmount it.

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto auto,owner,users,ro 0 0

the closest things to autoexec.bat files in slackware would be the file /etc/rc.d/rc.local which you can use for systemwide things like starting an irc server or privoxy, or even ndiswrapper. and ~/.bash_profile in your home directory for things you only want a single user to run on login.
