Unhappy How can I telnet into slackware from a win98 machine

Hi, I am currently enrolled in computer networking classes at my college and have been asked to install a slackware box and be able to telnet into it from Win98 box. I asked if we could use SSH instead but my teacher wants us to telnet in from a dos prompt. I already installed SSH on my 98 machine and can log in fine to the slackware box. But when i open a Dos prompt on 98 box and try to telnet in using the command (telnet i get a msg saying that it was unable to connect. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is wrong or what i can try to do.
