Just unpack the tarball. There is an install file you need to run.
That's it.
./install.sh

Lookie what I found on the Opera web site:
"How do I install?
Platform: GNU/Linux"
http://www.opera.com/support/search/....dml?index=456
Before you download something you don't know what to do with, please do some research.

No, you can install software for your own user (it shall be installed in the $HOME directory)
Installing as root makes the software available for every user in the system

On a properly setup Slackware system you would not install software as a user. A normal user can only write to /home/username and most software won't be installed there. Yes, I know there is the rare exception.
The best way for a new Slacker to install software is with an official Slackpackage from Slackware as root by issuing "installpkg <packagename>"

Hi,
since you are using slackware, so i would advice you to use "checkinstall" while installing the packages. This way the installed packages can be easily uninstalled later on.
read http://www.gnulinuxclub.org/index.ph...&Itemid=31this
and this
and use checkinstall
regards

Another way is to make your own SlackBuild scripts, which is what Pat V. uses in Slackware. There is a new project, SlackBuilds.org where you can learn HOW-TO make you own SlackBuild script. Checkinstall is okay, but limited in what it can do. SlackBuilds are more versatile.
