Horrible video card performance and DVD problems

I just freshly installed Slackware 9.1 on the laptop again (I've been playing around with a lot of different distros lately) and I've got the installation working smoothly for the most part but with two odd problems.

1. When I'm using any sort of graphics intensive app/game like my Tuxracer retail or Euphoria(GL) screensaver, I get horrible performance (in the range of 3 fps at best). My laptop has an i810 graphics card (Intel Extreme Graphics Controller...yes, bad, I know) which says it can use up to 64 megs of shared video memory. I've had this problem in the past with other distros because they've auto detected the card with a videomem of 16 megs. I would usually just circumvent this by using a distro config tool to manually set the memory to 32 megs, but I don't know how to do this with Slackware. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? The only error Tuxracer gives me from the command line is
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0"

2. I've been looking for a DVD player so naturally I tried Xine, Mplayer, and Ogle, but all of them seem to have a problem. Xine says that it can't use the resource dvd:/, mplayer can't play any type of video file at all saying that the video resource -vo isn't available, and Ogle will work from the command line, but the GUI version will not. Since Xine works fine as a video player I am most converned with trying to get the Ogle GUI working, it says it has a problem with libglade.so.0.

Thanks for your help all

About the performance of your graphics card i would use the configuration tool "xf86config". Just enter this one in a command prompt. It's just a tool for creating XF86config files. Also i'd suggest man XF86config so to learn how to edit the xfree start up file.

About your second problem: i would first check the permissions on the dvd block device (that is for my system /dev/hdc) and if a normal user using mplayer or xine could access it.
Also i would enable the dma for the dvd and for the hard disks using the command
hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc

I added the following to my XF86Config file

Section "Device"
Identifier "IEGC"
Driver "i810"
VideoRam 32768
#insert clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection

The other device in the video device section is

Section "Device"
Identifier "VESA Framebuffer"
Driver "vesa"
#VideoRam 4096
# Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection

I also changed the Device Entry in my screen section from using VESA Framebuffer to using IEGC. However this has given me no change in my video performance, am I forgetting to do something?

Yep, you obviously haven't followed the link
I posted ... for Tuxracer, for example (or anything
that uses OpenGL, really) you'll need DRI ...
