Hello, I ave a small still annoying problem. I use Slackware 10.1 and KDE. Everything runs smooth, except for a little thing. Sometimes, when I right click the desktop, the menu leaves a black hole in it. Can you help me? Thank you.
Thi smight happen if you are using the stock vesa drivers. Vesa is nice for defaults because it will work on basically any piece of hardware you throw at it, but it also doesn't perform *well* anywhere at all. Make sure that you are using th eproper driver for your video card and see if changing it helps.
xorgconf can help you if you don't know how to change your driver manually via editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf
I think you should use the ndivia proprietary driver on the nvidia.com, but you will hv problens if you're using the stock kernel. If so you'll need to recompile or upgrate to 2.6 kernels without nvidia frame buffer. Any info just ask.
Actully you don't need you don't wanna to but if you want to use the nvidia driver you will need to do some changes on the 2.4 removing some modules an recompiling. They conflic with nvidia drivers
well, when I installed slackware i used xorgconf and I selected the driver from the list Nvidia Gforce 4. I remember I was happy I had found the driver that matched perfectly with the name of my video card.
well that is the open driver that come with your slack box, I think you could go to nvidia.com and download the last version of theirs driver. You'll probably have problens on the install if you still using the stock kernel but I can help if you need to recompile yours.
