Highpoint HPT372 IDE RAID
Hi there guys,

I have recently purchased 2 x 120gb HD's and a Highpoint hpt372 Ide Raid controller.

What i want to do is install slack onto the raid 0 array. if I cant, can i use software raid on the 2 ide's and use it to boot from.

these are the only 2 hd's in the pc.

The situation is, I want to install slackware 9.0 on it. but it wont detect my Raid 0 array. Can any1 put me out of my misery and tell me if i can do any of this.

If not what Raid Controller will do the job, i have been looking at the promise TX2000 controller

I've been having major problems with the Highpoint controller. I would suggest finding a different controller. Many of the manufacturers seem to support Linux (with their own drivers), so with a little research, I think you'll find one that'll work well. I haven't done the research yet, so I can't help you with which one works, just that the Highpoint doesn't seem to.

You might want to try a 2.5 kernel.
They have support for the hpt372 chip.

The 2.4.20 kernel does too. It's not the kernel that's the problem, the card is buggy when you get to high disk capacities.

Thanks for all the replies dudes :)

I have managed to get the shop to refund my highpoint controller and after researching the IDE Raid market, I finally made a decision. I have purchased a 3ware Hardware Ata133 Controller. 99 + VAT. not a bad price to say the Highpoint was 60 and thats a software raid. Pain in the ass getting hold of a 3ware in the uk btw. managed to get insight to order me one.

cant wait. :D
