Just upgraded to 7.4, seems to run without a problem. Upgrading is fairly easy:
- Obtain a copy of the directory /sources/ap/vim from your -current repository
- Remove the directory patches and the file vim-runtime-syntax-20110328.diff.gz from that directory
- Download and copy the Vim 7.4 tarball into that directory
- Edit the files vim.Slackbuild and vim-gvim.Slackbuild, change the version in line 23 to 7.4 and the version in line 74 (line-numbers are the same in both scripts)
- Save the scripts and run them, install the packages, done.
Yeah. I guess I should just do it, too...
It's just odd to see patches included in the whole build package, but not used, or patches like vim-runtime-syntax that didn't seem to be official Vim patches.
Gives me a feeling of "What do they know that I don't?"
And there always is something in the end :P
IMHO, though it looks promising with ability of EFI booting, as far as I can judge keeping an eye on the main syslinux mailing list, it's far from being stable enough to be included in Slackware.

Well if that is the case, then we certainly don't want it!
Will Vim 7.4 still make it into 14.1?
I would just build Vim myself but whenever I checked out the buildscripts on the isos in the past, not all patches always made it in, so I wonder if Pat (or whoever maintains it) has some special criteria and I have more faith in the Slackware team than in myself when it comes to those things :P
On the subject of Vim, any chance of compiling it so that it is X-aware? Right now, it looks like only gVim gets the +X11 flag. I frequently use Vim inside a terminal window and it's a pain that the clipboard doesn't play with X, etc. out of the box.
Edited to add that I know I can recompile it that way, so it's not a big deal - just a thought.
I had some issues on the screen from the installer where input is tested - my Danish characters זרו were displayed as boxes, even if the danish keyboard layout was apparantly set correctly, because ,.- were in the right place.
I emailed it to the Slackware gang. Not a big deal, just something to note.
Hi, when compiling the new kernel, 3.10.14 from source (to get my graphics tablet - which is supported in the 3.11 series - to work, I had to add a hid-huion driver) below 5 modules had to be omitted from the configuration to get through the whole process.
Has anyone else experienced this? The only difference with the config file as shipped with the Slackware kernel-source was my addition of the hid-huion module. With all other 3.10 kernels which passed through the current tree I did not have these problems. When Googling this, it seems that patches for some of these modules have been proposed (at the moment the source files for these drivers in 3.10.14 seem not different from the ones in 3.11.3).
Would it be possible to get a more recent version of tightvnc in /extra? tightvnc 2.7.10 was released in July. The version in -current /extra is 1.3.10.
Ooops! Nevermind. I see version 2 is Windows only. Not available yet for Linux.
Please, is there any perspective of coming the next slackware 15? Or is it the slackware 14.1?
Well ... 14.1 and 15, are just numbers and characters, but the question remains

He's been calling it 14.1 in the ChangeLog.txt:
Quote:

a/etc-14.1-x86_64-2.txz: Rebuilt.
Added /lib{,64} and /usr/lib{,64} paths to the top of ld.so.conf.
