Help with permission
OK folks.......I'll give up and ask for help. I've installed the shiny new Slackware 14 on both my Laptop & Desktop. I am having trouble installing packages I download from on the Desktop but they work fine on the Laptop. I am getting a "permission denied" error even when I'm logged in as root. I did buy a new 240 gig solid state drive to install the new version of Slackware to. It boots lightning fast.....just have the permission problem. What am I missing??

Make sure the slackbuild is executable

chmod +x scriptname.Slackbuild

Or start it with

bash scriptname.Slackbuild

or even better sh filename.SlackBuild

That's the problem !! When I try to "chmod +x whatever" I get the "permission denied" error.....logged in as root.

May it be possible that you have saved the SlackBuilds on a filesystem that doesn't support Linux file permissions, like FAT32 or NTFS?

The entire drive is formatted as ext4 with 4 gigs swap space. I figured 4 gigs swap was enough....however I have 8 gigs of ram.......could this be a problem??

What are the actual permissions (ls -l)? How about /etc/fstab?
