thanks for your help
i will try to download the firmware, but i can't login ,qaz it hange, is there any way to do that ?or i have to use kernel 2.4 ,install the firmware and then compile kernel 2.6? specail thanks 4 guys. |
You can boot the huge26.s kernel from the install dvd or cd to the root directory on your system. Then you can examine the drivers, etc.

I have the same problem.
Until upgrading to Slackware 11.0, I had no problems with this driver. Firmware is installed as always in /lib/firmware - version 3.0. I understand that devfs is not in use on Slackware 11.0 - please correct me if I am wrong. (I had a similar issue with my camera not being recognised and had to write a udev rule, with much assistance, so that the system could see it). Looking around to find a solution I ran this; Quote:
As far as I can determine on my laptop, the ipw2200 hardware shares the same internal usb bus as the bluetooth hardware. Bluetooth will not work without the ipw2200 hardware up and running. Unless I have this all wrong, is it necessary to write a udev rule for the ipw2200 device. Will that solve the problem. What form should a udev rule take for this device. I realise that this is not a mass storage device, neither is my camera, but it works. Any ideas muchly appreciated. |
Since posting this and following a fresh install of Slack 11.0 on my PC, I see that /etc/udev/rules.d/network-device.rules is present, whereas, it is not on my laptop after an upgrade from 10.2.
This narrows things down somewhat, as the network modules did not load at boot, usually they do. First things first, to get eth0, e100 and eth1, ipw2200 modules to load at boot and see whether udev creates a network-devices.rules file. Then see if the firmware loads. Hope this is helpful. |
Updating /etc/rc.d/rc.xxx.new files fixed the problem. Now bluetooth is not working now. I can live without it for a while.
udev now creates the network-device.rules file in /etc/udev/rules.d. |
hi
thanks every one i did that install the firmware i dont see the message like before ipw200: ipw2200-bss.fw request_firmware failed:Reason -2 ipw200: unable to load fitmware : -2 ----------------------------- but its still hange. ? |
I am not sure, but I did an install of 11 moving up from 10.2 using the 2.6 kernel. I wonder if in the kernel they have the IPW2200 enabled? I moved to 2.6.18 almost as fast as the install was done, installed ipw2200, fw, and ieee80211 and no problems at all.

I think since 2.6.17.xx, the IPW2200 modules is already included in the kernel, so you don't have to install IPW2200 driver again. You only need to install the firmware (and perhaps the ieee80211, but i think this is already included also). In the latest kernel development, you will need to upgrade your firmware to the 3rd version or it won't work

thanks every one to try helping me,i m grateful 4 u all
i did that, install 2.6.18 and kernel-module-2.6.18 but with the same problem , my pc hange. i try to install kernel 2.6.18 with the kernel-modules-2.6.18 +frimware 3 but the same problem when i install the kernel 2.6 without kernel-modules-2.6 my pc work fine but without drivers.and when install kernel modules even with firmware or not its hange, every time i wana try to make any change i have to format and make full install. i dont know what to do ? |

How did you configure your new 2.6.18 kernel? According to the IPW2200 docs when you configure a new kernel you need to enable "Wireless LAN (non-hamradio) & Wireless Extensions" However make sure that anything that says ipw2200 is disabledunder "Wireless LAN (non-hamradio) & Wireless Extensions" Then build the kernel and copy, and edit your lilo/grub.
Then download the 3.0-FW unpack the *.fw files to /lib/firmware, make sure you have ieee80211 built/installed and installed, then build/install the ipw2200 driver. Then just execute the load script and check lsmod. |
i didnt compile kernel 2.6
just install huge26.s and test26.s i will try to compile and tell u . thanks all. |
