# cat /proc/asound/version Code:
lspci Code:
# lsmod | grep snd Thanks in advance... |
have you run
alsaconf as root user? Have you checked alsamixer to see if anything is muted? |

As for alsamixer, I already set everything full 100%. Result is the same, no sound on speakers. OH yeah, my kernel is Linux 2.6.21.1 Thank you |
Double-check that the alsamixer settings are not muted. They can be set at 100% but still be muted. Also check that your speakers are plugged into the right holes in your sound card.

Whether the PC Speaker is muted or not, no effect. But I put everything unmuted, the result is my speaker's sound is indicated by "Surround" on alsamixer. This is strange, it should be on "Pc Speaker" not "Surround". After I set the "Surround" unmuted, my speaker is working like a charm !! I got fooled by alsamixer. Thanks by the way. |
Hi
I get this problem as well, my brother-in-law suggested that the internal switching mechanism is at fault, possibly because of a loose connection at the back of the headphones socket. I don't know if this is the case, but in my case it is not Slackware. Let me explain: Originally Windows XP installed, speakers working, then not working. Slackware on external HD no speakers. Windows re-installed, speakers working, Slackware not re-installed, speakers working. Now, speakers not working in Windows or Slackware. My conclusion some sort of hardware problem. samac |
That case is totally different with me.
My problem was only alsa problem. I have to include that driver in the kernel configuration. Then use alsaconf command to configure the alsa. Then use alsamixer to unmute everything. Note that you must unmute everything to test your sound. Don't be fooled by the label of alsamixer that "Surround" is refer to PC Speaker Or Maybe I am a real fool? Well, I am a newbie anyway. Tje |
Try pressing the mute button on the laptop?

My Fn+"set touchpad off" (which is Fn + F7 on my Acer keyboard) didn't work. So, I dont think Fn + F8(mute/unmute speaker) will worked too. Who knows? I got another serious problem rather than this audio stuff. I am re-installing my slackware right now. thx. |
