Help Setting Up NIC With Slackware 10.0
Ok, I posted this question in the hardware forum, to no avail. Hopefully I'll get a llittle more luck here =)
I currently have this NIC installed. My question is this. Before I install Slack 10, I want to know if I am likely to encounter any problems using this to connect to the internet? This tends to be the main thing stopping me from fully learning Linux, so before I install on this box, I'd like to know if I'm likely to succeed. What should I have to do to get it working under Slackware 10 if it wont work out of the box? Thanks -Chris. |
You can try boot from a slackware install cd then activate network, you will see if it supported out of the box without recompile kernel
|
Could you elaborate slightly on the activate network part? On the installation, when it asks for details such as hostname etc, I never know what to put. Any help setting this up would be much appreciated, and I'll try and mess around with the boot CD's now.

Hostname : want you want, a word, a name, this will be the name of your machine.
What sort of internet connection have you ? |
I have a broadband connection, 756down and 128up, via an ethernet cable from my nic to my external broadband modem.
|
I would use DHCP when it asks for IP, and ISP name servers when it ask it.
|
Where can I find out my ISP name servers? My ISP is blueyonder, a UK firm.

Did you run netconfig ?
