Help regarding dual boot slack 14 with other Linux (uses grub/grub2 and UUID)
I am trying to install multiple distros on my test laptop. Till now I have used fuduntu/mint/fedora 18/bothi every thing goes well. At some point all were installed without a problem.
Now I want to add Slackware on it. I run Slackware on one my dektops. I do all this just for fun and learning. When I first installed Slackware, there was Fedora 18 and Mint. During Slackware install I skipped lilo as I know how to update grub. So I updated grub in Fedora and Slackware was detected fine and a menu entry was added. But Slackware don't want to run as it is failing to load root file system. I know Slackware uses lilo. I decided to go other way around. I wiped out the hard drive. All my data is on a separate partition. So no worries. I installed Slackware first. Everything worked well. After searching forums I have even created initrd.gz (with the command suggested by /usr/share/mkinitrd/... script) and updated lilo and fstab so that every thing is working with UUID. Now I tried to install Mint. Mint detected Slackware and installed grub. Now neither Mint nor Slackware boots, Grub puts me on maintenance console. Looks like there is some problem dual booting Slackware with other Linux versions. I at least want Fuduntu, Mint and Slackware on my laptop. Please suggest me right direction to go. |
Looks like bit difficult. I have also seen some videos in youtube claiming that slackware is running from grub2.....????
I am still working and making good progress. I think I am getting there. |
Put your configuration here, better said your grub.cfg

I got it working. Now Slackware is booting from grub2 installed by fuduntu. All slackware kernels are booting fine with advanced options from grub2. It is good for now. I will work further to generate grub.cfg correctly with grub2-mkconfig. I think this involves renaming and/or generating img files for initrd. |

Thankyou so much for your help. I will try that. After adding this, we need to disable the os prober on slack right? |
