Help me connect online

I've just installed slackware (my first linux distro). And i have a problem.

1.My biggest problem is my winmodem netodragon. Ive read it work flawlessly in mandrake and suse but i just cant make it connect. I use kppp. I cant find any dial up tool in dropline. There is a network config tool that i used to dial to my isp though and it did. Only mozilla and any browser cant seem to connect with it. With kppp, it always says "script timed out". I have no idea what script that is if i can edit that or what.

i still have a few questions about dropline. ( it crashes randomly) But that could be related to my NVIDIA config that produces a hell lot of errors.

Im forced to use my windows box just to browse for how tos and forums like this. Thanks in advance

You say it actually did connect, but weren't able to browse. In that case the problem might be that you don't have any dns-servers available.

Otherwise it might look like you connected, but you didn't.

Try pinging to the ip of one of the nameservers in an xterm, or a traceroute to a site you know ( traceroute www.linuxquestions.org ) and see if it finds it.

If it is a dns thing, you will be able to ping the ip address of the nameserver, but won't be able to traceroute.

i finally did it. Im on linux now. I dont know if the traceroute thing made it work but i can browse now. Only after a reinstall since the modem drivers i installed got messed up altogether. I also installed x-isp to make it simple. It didnt work at first so i have to consult my post here (on windows). As soon as the traceroute is doing its work mozilla popped its home page like magic. Coincidence or a restart thing?

I was about to switch to suse tomorrow if slackware wont connect.
