Help! Kernel panic:No init found.
I'm sorry if you've seen this before.. or if this is really basic. This is the first time I've ever even seen anything to do with Linux.. I want to expand my horizons, so I'm trying to install Linux. I get this message when it's trying to load the Kernel:
Code:
EXT2-fs warning: checktime reached, running e2fsck is recommended
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
Freeing unused kernel memory: 120k freed
EXT2-fs error (device ramdisk(1,0)): ext2_check_page: bad entry in directory #11
2: directory entry across blocks - offset=280,inode=67305484, rec_len=25704, name_len=112
Warning: unable to open an initial console.
EXT2-fs error (device ramdisk(1,0)): ext2_check_page: bad entry in directory #44
3: inode out of bounds - offset=608, inode=1248, rec_len=16, name_len=7
EXT2-fs error (device ramdisk(1,0)): ext2_check_page: bad entry in directory #31
6: inode out of bounds - offset=200, inode=1613, rec_len=16, name_len=5
kmod: failed to exec /sbinmodprobe -s -k binfmt-464c, errno=2
kmod: failed to exec /sbinmodprobe -s -k binfmt-464c, errno=2
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
I have no clue what this means.. It happens after it begins to work with the networking aspects of my hardware it seems.
Please help!

I have no clue how I'd do that.. All I did was burn the ISO images to CD and am trying to boot from those. I'm trying it with version 10.2..

this error comes from booting the install cd 1 then? you may have a bad burn, and you might want to try burning the iso to a new disk. also, you might want to check the md5sum (available from the site you downloaded the iso's from) to make sure the iso isn't currupt. sounds confusing, it really isn't...

If you got that error when booting from a Install CD, I'd bet that the CD is probably damaged, try checking the md5sum of the ISO image, if it's all OK then burn the disk again.
Otherwize download the image again (preferibly by bittorrent, it's harder that you end up with a transfer corrupt if you are using bittorrents -because they perform checksums on several parts of the file- and you save lots of bandwith to lots of people running servers ).

Oh my gosh! I figured it out people! Thank you for your help!
It wasn't the boot CD at all. This is an old pc that I got from my parents since I gave them my newer one when I got a laptop. It turns out that a stick of ram was bad in it. Thanks again!
