help installing slackware 10.2
i should start saying that im a linux noob

i put the cd in, boots up, press enter, press enter after the keyboard map, logged in as root, then when it gets to the next screen (the one where it asks me to mount a linux partions or make one using cfdisk) I get lost, fdisk/cfdisk gives me errors, i type "setup" and nothing happends, can someone help me please, i heard great things about slackware and i really want to give it a shot

First thing you need to figure out is what are the dev names for your harddrive(s).

If for example you have your IDE drive on the primary channel on the #1 slot on the cable... then your harddrive is /dev/hda

so for example you would use a command like

cfdisk -z /dev/hda

cfdisk is of course the partition program... "-z" tell it to act like there is no existing partitions on the drive, and the /dev/hda tells it what device to play with.

to find out exactly what dev devices you have use #dmesg, may want to try using some grep pipeing though

#dmesg | grep hd

if its a SATA drive it'll be detected as a /dev/sda device, same goes for RAID array and SCSI is /dev/sr
