Help! Error messg when startup

I used lilo to boot my Slackware linux. During start up I saw the error message:

Warning: unable to open an initial console.
Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init=option to
kernel.

When I installed Linux, when asked about the display type, I chose to use the standard VGA, I don't know if that's the problem....

My laptop is: thinkpad T42, 1400x1050,32bit color, centrino mobil 1.8MHz

Could anyone help me solve this problem? Thanks very much!

What kernel are you using? If you are not using HUGE, then you will need to run mkinitrd with the correct modules. You can use the cd to boot, specifying your / (root) and them mkinitrd. See /boot/README.initrd for details.

I had the same error message and used my DVD as rescue disk:
huge.s root=/dev/sda3 initrd=ro
Maybe this works for you as well
