Help, ati radeon 9250

I totally lost have here... I ran out and brought an ati radeon 9250 pci 265 mb card about two months ago and still can can't get the card to work. I have post this problem in the hardware channel. DavidPhillips (Moderator) and Robert G. Hays tried to help. According to what I was told I don't have any video modules loaded. ( more information is this address: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=332639 ).

If this is so, could someone please let me know; what I need to do to get this card working...

thx

you need to get the ati .run file from ati here

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

and run it. it should give you a log if it fails. then post the log. i cant do much with what you gave me.

if you do a " #modprobe fglrx ", what output do you get.
(if you get nothing, check with "lsmod" if it's loaded )

looks like you compiled that kernel yourself...right ?
i see radeonfb and vesafb build into the kernel.

if you have more things compiled in , like drm , it won't work.
( drm is what fglrx is complaining about...)

maybe try to make those things modular instead of build in.
( leave only the vesafb compiled into the kernel. )

rude_reality 06-20-2005 11:40 AM

yes, my brother help me pick the setting for the configuration. I will go through the setting and change those setting to modules.

killerbob 06-20-2005 12:10 PM

You're running the 2.4 kernel. The current ATI FireGL driver is compiled against 2.6.

Also, you need agpgart to be a module for it to work properly. If it's compiled directly into the kernel, fglrx won't be able to replace it, and you won't be able to use DRI.

edong23 06-20-2005 06:36 PM

yup what he said. the one above me. that is the deal. and the other guy might be right too. about the vesafb and rivafb. check that, you know if all else fails youll get nvidia next time huh.;)

rude_reality 06-22-2005 12:53 AM

thx for the help... I had to reinstall slack, because I could not figure out modules i need to the drivers working. With the fresh install and some editing in the fglrx_public.h. Its working...
