Having problems launching xmms2 in the KDE Desktop on Slackware 14.0
Hi I have installed xmms2 from the SlackBuild site. I am running an i3 Desktop with Slackware 14.0 huge smp patched with the latest patches as recommended by the security advisories. I am also running KDE 4.8.5 as my desktop.
The installation of xmms2 appears to have succeeded, but when I try to launch it I get an indication of activity from the mouse icon, but then it stops and xmms2 is not available. I have tried all of the various xmms2 executables in /usr/bin but nothing seems to work. I want to try xmms2 to see how well it handles mp4 files. Audacious hangs every-time I try it with mp4 and xmms shuts down after playing about 7-8 mp4s no matter how many I have in the play list. If anyone has any experience with getting xmms2 running I would appreciate the suggestions. Thanks |
hi mariner53.
xmms2 is pretty outdated and depends an older glib (2.16) and python (2.4). if you could supply the errors you get, we can pinpoint the problem. |
OK I have the following glib and python packages running on my system
glib-1.2.10-i486-3 glib-networking-2.32.3-i486-1 glib2-2.32.4-i486-7 glibc-2.15-i486-7 glibc-i18n-2.15-i486-7 glibc-profile-2.15-i486-7 glibc-solibs-2.15-i486-7 glibc-zoneinfo-2013b-noarch-1_slack14.0 python-2.7.3-i486-2 python-dateutil-2.1-i486-1_SBo When I type xmms2 in the command line it gives me the XMMS CLI Shell and I can type in commands, but that is not the interface I really want use. When I try launching from the KDE menu I get icon activity for a while and then nothing and xmms2 does not start. When I tried xmms2-launcher in the command line I got the following: bash-4.2$ xmms2-launcher xmms2-launcher: startup of xmms2d failed! bash-4.2$ xmms2d INFO: ../src/xmms/log.c:49: Initialized logging system :) 15:11:25 ERROR: ../src/xmms/ipc.c:805: Couldn't setup IPC listening on 'unix:///tmp/xmms-ipc-mariner53'. 15:11:25 FATAL: ../src/xmms/main.c:538: IPC failed to init! The xmms2 web site makes it seem that it should be enabled to run on KDE, but I could not find a KDE client in the listing. Thanks for your help. |
