have 2ethernet cards. ifconfig showing 1. which one?

hey everyone,
i have installed slack 10 (kernel 2.4.26) on my ibm r40 laptop (its a centrino with wireless lan.)
ifconfig is showing eth0 and lo. no eth1.
how can i know if that eth0 is the wireless LAN or the normal LAN card ?

Greets,
Philip

I dont think it is wireless. Im not sure but I think that 2.4.26 doesnt have centrino wireless driver.

hmm

well look in the KDE control center i can see wireless network ...
and i can edit stuff in it ...
i want to be sure , and how will i get the "not detected" card to work ? i dont even have the laptop manual.

Look in the output of dmesg, you will find information about the cards I guess. The driver of the card which was succesfully loaded first will be the first eth adapter, eth0.

Run "lsmod" as root in konsole. If wireless module is loded you should see "ipw2100" in the list ( Intel's Open Source driver for the first Centrino generation)

Unless you installed the drivers for the wireless it will be the wired network. There are a couple of different Wireless cards used in the Thinkpads I am pretty sure none of them have a driver included in the stock kernel yet.

Edit: The easy way to find out by the way is to run iwconfig for a wired connection it will show "no wireless extensions" (duh) and for a wireless interface it will show info like ESSID, Mode, Channel, etc...

ok ok i got it working i downloaded the ipw2100 drivers and firmware files and it worked ...
ifconfig now shows eth0 and eth1
thanx everyone for the help
