Has anyone successfully built GSB 2.30 on 13.1?
 

I'm getting impatient and don't have anything to do tonight, so when I get my 32 bit build machine upgraded to 13.1 I was going to to try building GSB 2.30. Has anyone tried this yet? I'd like to hear of successes or failures if there are any! :)

It's not released yet, so i think that no one has got it

Binaries aren't out, but you can always check out the source and try to build it. That's what damgar was referring to.

I had GSB64 2.28 for 13.1 on one box but had problems with it and shortly afterwords it was removed from the mirror.
I don't think I was supposed to be using it as it was not yet announced on there site.
At the time I used it there were no listed required package replacements. That may have been part of the problem I had with it..
GSB64-Current works great tho.
Anyhow:
GSB's stuff is always good. I'm sure GSB64 2.30 will be great when there done with it.

I've been running 2.28 (current) with current for several weeks, and all was fairly well, I've had to update some packages with slackbuilds since 13.1 like gparted but no serious issues. I'm going to try 2.30, but to be quite honest I've never built anything of this scope and I'm not real sure what I'm doing...It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to checkout the sources...at least that's what I think I'm getting! :newbie: Add to that I've got ssh and XDMCP sessions going every which-a-way and confusion the best word for the situation here!

Slightly off-topic.
After the release of 13.0 soon I switched to -current. Then I tried a lot of software not included in slackbuilds.org. The system was a mess as I installed them in various locations. I was a slackware newbie, I still am, but I think I know much more about package management on Slack. I decided to run 13.1 (not -current) now and will try to introduce a proper package management regime.
I'm also curious about GSB, but I know it's going to upgrade some libs. May it result in any compatibility problem with slackbuilds.org later on?

It's not something I've run into. In fact it's made a lot of slackbuilds go easier because the Gnome dependencies were installed in a single go. Also GSB has a lot of the more common things you'd build from SBo as packages you can install with gslapt/slapt-get like OOo and the gst-good/bad/ugly/ffmpeg plugins. This is the list of required and recommended package replacements from 2.26 on 13. Things like an upgraded compiz were included. :)

EDIT: As a sidenote, so far it's building it's little heart out, with no problems once I RTFM.... thus far. <knocks on wood>

I think I'm nearing the end of the build. So far I've had one package fail - cheese-2.30.1 which I guess is a webcam app. Since I don't own a webcam except for my laptop at work (nothing to see here folks.) I'm not too worried. Fingers crossed. :)

GSB website (repo) actually showed packages for slackware-13.1 32 bit. And I downloaded them and installed them OK. But yesterday, I found the packages were gone. Regarding cheese 2.30.1 please try to compile 2.28.1. 2.28.1 works here.

Just compile with their GSB build system, it should work.

Everything built except cheese and I skipped OOo because it wanted multilple additional files and it's easy enough to build from SBo. The build system's KDE on the other hand was completely borked even though XFCE and fluxbox both work fine. KDM is gone and I can't launch any KDE apps. My (hopeful)solution right now is just to go to my local mirror and do and I will re-install the replacement packages from GSB afterwards. Also the kde-menu-items isn't available for 13.1 yet, but I know that it works for 2.28 (current) and 13.1 so I'll play with that as well.

Gnome seems to work fine, although I don't see any big changes right off the bat, but then again so far I've just been trying to get KDE back up and running. If I get everything working I'll probably do a seperate install of 13.1 and then do a direct installpkg of the GSB tree like I did for 2.28 on what was slackware current a few weeks ago.

One more question regarding GSB. If some packages get overwritten while installing GSB. Will I have to blacklist them for slackpkg?

If they are part of the required replacement then yes.

Hello! Yes, 2.30 should build fine. We should have a binary release coming soon!

Read the SLACKWARE_REPLACED_PACKAGES.TXT to see which packages need to be replaced and why. :-)
