Hardware bug:clock timer configuration lost

I'm running Slackware(kernel 2.2.26),and I receive quite often this following messages:

probable hardware bug: clock timer configuration lost - probably a VIA686a.
probable hardware bug: restoring chip configuration.

Does anyone know to fix this problem?
Thanks!

Best Regards
Mathew

That's a rather old kernel - any particular reason why you're not using a 2.6 series?
