Hard Lock at X shutdown.
Ok... I was able to do a workaround and get X to work with full support with a new 2.6 kernel.
However, now when I shutdown from X, the system hard locks. This happens just as the X server is switching back to a term but before text is displayed. I don't like shuting down my computer like this... Help. |
When this happens press the numlock key, If the light still switchs The linux kernel is still active, Try switch consoles with alt-F2, alt-F3 etc. It might be as X is shutting down its not setting the console back from 7.
If the numlock light is flashing when you press the key, but nothings coming up with alt-F2 etc. Then this maybe a driver problem, and X can't reset the display ( Happened to be with the NVidia drivers ). If numlock doesn't work then its a Kernel/X problem as The Linux kernel has crashed. ( This still can be driver related though ). |
The number key fails to work. :(

Ok fixed the problem... it was a driver issue so thanks for pointing that out.
The FB had issues with X dumping into it when I wanted to shutdown... so I killed it off in my kernel config, recompiled and shutdown. Apon boot up I noted how not using a FB is not that bad... I use run level 4 anyway. Now from X my computer can shutdown and restart without a hic. :D |
