Had to reinstall XP...Lost LiLo

I had to reinstall XP due to one of their patches crashing my system... /grumble microshaft
I rebooted, and it did not load LiLo. How can I get LiLo working again so that I can get back into Linux? I really dont want to reinstall if i can avoid it, it took me a very long time to get things set up and working

Thanks

well i am not sure what distro your using (thats useful info in a post )
but typically you can use your first cd installation disc as a rescue disk, and then re-run lilo to be installed ..

Hi snowiewolf,

I just faced this problem 2 days ago. I followed this steps (I hope I don't forget anything):

1. I booted my system using Slackware 9.1 disk 1.

2. mkdir /mnt/hd

3. mount -t auto /dev/hdb3 /mnt/hd
Note: /dev/hdb3 is my main linux partition. You should put your own partition here.
rm /boot

4. ln -s /mnt/hd /boot
Note 2: I have /boot and all my linux system on the same partition. Your system may be different

5. cd /mnt/hd/sbin

6. lilo -C /mnt/hd/etc/lilo.conf

That's all. I rebooted and lilo was there again.

Hope this helps.

Bye

SnOp

Boot off the first cd, and it will tell you how to boot your system. At the boot promt type:
bare.i root=/dev/hdaX noinitrd ro (replace X with the number of your root partition)

Alright, so now you are booting up, and if you have a graphical login, hit ctrl+atl+f6. Now you login in as root, type "lilo", hit enter, and boom, you're done.

Are you sure you have your partition number correct? If you aren't, try doing what I said above, and start with /dev/hda1 and go all the way up to /dev/hda9.

keep guessing, I don't know what else to tell you, but try /dev/hda3, and so on.
