guru's!! problem getting firebird started
Hi all,
I'm trying to get firebird database server started on slack. I start the /etc/rc.d/rc.firebird script, it says " starting firebird....successful etc etc. with the isql client I can connect to local databases but over the network it gives this error:
SQL> CONNECT "slackware:/opt/firebird/examples/employee.fdb"
CON> user 'SYSDBA' password 'masterkey';
CONNECT "slackware:/opt/firebird/examples/employee.fdb"
user 'SYSDBA' password 'masterkey'
ERROR:
Statement failed, SQLCODE = -902
Unable to complete network request to host "slackware".
-Failed to establish a connection.
-No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
I've got a strange feeling that it is not listening on the port. port scanners don't pick up the firebird port as open. how do I get the firebird service (fbserver) to listen on the port? ps I'm not running a firewall.
thanx all.
