GStreamer problem

I want to watch some live streaming TV channels on my laptop which has slackware installed.

For instance, I try this page: >click<

But I get this error:
The Totem Plugin could not be started.
Failed to create a GStreamer play object.
Please check your GStreamer installation.

Slackware is fully updated. Any help?

EDIT: I have also installed the latest version of GStreamer from source, and 3 plugins. (good bad and ugly)

Thanks in advance.

Try installing gecko-mplayer using sbopkg

Slackware does not ship with Totem. Ask whoever you got that package from.

Perhaps you attempted to install Gnome, or at least parts of Gnome?

Yes I did. I downloaded and installed Gnome from >here< like 3 months ago. Never used it though...I only work with KDE. (wanted to give gnome a try but never bothered)

Is this related to the problem?

Could be ;) At least the Totem error is. You would have to check their website and support avenues.

I attempted to access the exact stream you linked to, and it never loaded (did not even work in a Windows VM). Same with ~50% of the links on that website. The ones that actually did work, worked quite well, no matter if they were flash, real, or asf/wmv. Try going directly to the source - rather than a link farm website. Quite a few of these link farming websites tend to have a high overall failure rate because links change overtime, parent sites stop hot linking ....

vdemuth recommending gecko-media-player is spot on. This plugin plays most streaming media from working sites :)

Solved it :D. I installed both gecko-media player and gecko-mplayer from Slackbuilds and now I don't get any errors.

And it seems that the site I linked didn't have a good stream. I can see many other streams though.

Thanks guys.
