Did'nt use it but I don't think it will change something because GSB will compile and make packages for your system, so the optimizations will be fit with your configuration
Originally posted by denning Haven't got around to testing G-ware yet, but it seems to be another project worth checking out.
I like the documentation at G-ware.They've provided a nice installation how-to, a detailed listing of system files and configs that are either updated or edited, and then how to clean them after the install. There is even a nice uninstall tutorial. It really allows you to be in much better control of you system.
Just wondering if anyone else has had the problem where upon starting gnome (or trying to add the clock applet manually) you recieved the following error:
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet".
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?
Originally posted by Xian I only wanted to post a public word of thanks to those that are developing the Gnome Slackbuild (GSB) project. I just installed Gnome 2.9.91 on my Slackware 10.1 box, and the installation was just ridiculously easy and it completed without a single hick-up. This is such a nice alternative to have and you folks are doing a superb job.
How reversible is a GSB installation? I'd like to option to roll back to my pre-Gnome state. Thanks.
Originally posted by reddazz Ah, my bad, I was actually looking for a screenshots section in their menu Anyway they look pretty kool.
Thanks!
BTW, they've put some my larger screenshots on the GSB main site HERE.
Oh and Dropline GNOME works like a charm for me as well, matter of fact it's my main desktop. I know a lot of people have some "issues" with it, but well, I guess that's what makes it all good, differences.
It is still crawling like gnome, oh it is gnome . When I login it complain of xkb error. I didn't have any xkb setting on xorg.conf as far as I can remember. Maybe that is the problem.
The main reason I installed gsb is for totem. And it still can't play VCD. Complain of some /dev problem.
So, I remove gsb from my machine, reinstall the packages which gsb had "upgraded" with its own which got pull out by my removepkg.
At least I learn something new, I can upgradepkg --install-new *.tgz inside xap directory (mounted Slackware 10.1 disk1 cdrom) to restore most of the needed packages. Oh yes, in l(library) directory as well.
Originally posted by carboncopy I don't like gsb! But, it is just me. hehehe..

I got the same error with the latest release (FRG-0.1.94 with GNOME 2.10), but was able to continue anyway. It's still a WIP, so it'll get better as he sorts out his build scripts.
I found gstreamer to be completely broken in FRG-0.1.94 , and restored my machine to pre-FRG status fairly quickly. I wonder if its anything to do with my 2.6.10 kernel. No xkb errors, though. I might give FRG another go in the future, but for now I'll wait and see what Gware can come up with.

Like I said, the FRG I use is just for testing and it is a WIP (work in progress). My main Slack install has Dropline Gnome 2.8.3 and I'm waiting on "pins and needles" for 2.10 to come out (probably next week). Never looked at Gware before.
Just a note, freerock posted a fix for the xkeyboard issues as well as the gstreamer problems. Just download the updated packages via rsync and then upgradepkg. I did it and now everything is working fine.
I'm using GSB right now and the only thing that I can complain about is some of the themes don't skin out icons as they should, other than that it's pretty solid with these updates.
