GRUB error Help!

I am trying to boot from WIndows XP CD, after having Linux ( I believe) on it.

Get this error when trying to boot from CD

"GRUB loading stage 1.5
GRUB loading please wait
ERROR 22"

What can I do, the HD is completely formatted, why wont it boot from the WInXP CD?

get a dos bootdisk, boot to it and run
Code:
fdisk /mbr
That will clean grub off of your master boot record however I don't think that is why the cd rom won't boot. Are you sure the bios is set boot from the cdrom before booting from the hard drive?

I will try to download and burn a boot disk. Yeah I hit F12 which lets me make where I would like to boot from, and I selected CD/DVD Drive. Still wont boot from CD. But will make this boot disk and see. It's a Dell Latitude C840.

Any good boot disk sites you would recommend?

Didnt work, I downloaded 2 different kinds of boot disks too. And selected to boot from CDROM.

Still nothing...just acts like it's running the CD, then goes to same GRUB error message.

I think xjlittle was referring to a *floppy* boot disk.
Remember them ... ???

This is most likely a failing in the Windoze installer code - it actually is booting the CD, but its refusing to run.
If you can boot to Linux (or a liveCD), what does the following (from root) show
Code:
fdisk -l
(lower case ell)

Sorry, missed that.
On my Inspiron, I have to hit f12 to get a boot menu that allows me to boot the CD. Doesn't matter what I have set in the BIOS.
Check if you have something similar - should say on the Dell splash screen on reboot.

GRUB problems

I had recently installed Ubuntu onto my computer with Windows xp already on it. Everything worked fine, except Ubuntu never could get the internet to work, but that's hardly now my problem. I no longer wanted the Ubuntu platform because I saw no reason to keep it if the internet was not useable whilst on that operating system. Anyway, after getting the Ubuntu operating system onto my computer, GRUB was installed to manage the two operating systems. I used Windows XP's Disk Management program to remove the two partitions made to run Ubuntu, now, there are two seperate partitions of unallocated space. (I'm on a different computer now, this all took place on my laptop). I tried to reboot my computer just for regular maintenance after this, and the computer starts to load GRUB and gets the same error as talked about before:
GRUB stage 1.5
GRUB loading. please wait..
Error 22

I can't do anything from there, and I tried using the option PXE Boot which is given to me at the Gateway boot screen. And that tries to use a thing called NVIDIA Boot Agent, but it says no operating system found. I never touched the Windows XP partition so I know it's not damage and it's still there. I'm hoping someone knows what I can do to remove grub and get my computer to load up windows automatically again just like it did when it was manufactored.

PLEASE HELP!
