GroupWise on Slackware

For reference, this is how I get the latest Linux GroupWise client running on Slackware 11 - assuming a full install of stable. I'm using the 2.6.17.13 kernel.

Download the latest client from Novell, at time of writing this is 7.0.1..

Extract gw701clnxm.tgz and then cd to /gw701clnxm/root/image/2006.06.13/client/linux.

Here you will find two rpms and an install script.

Become root and install the client rpm, novell-groupwise-gwclient-7.0.1-20060613.i386.rpm, with the no-dependency option.

Code:

rpm -ivh --nodeps novell-groupwise-gwclient-7.0.1-20060613.i386.rpm
That's it.

Thanks for the tip.

How do you connect to the novell directory in Slackware 11? The Novell Linux clients for NetWare have been rough to work with when I've tried them.

Very rough indeed - I've been there!

I must confess to using SLED 10 on my ThinkPad when in work, I use Slackware at home and connect to the GW server using the Linux client.

As for connecting to eDirectory, I have had to wait for SLED 10 to experience a reliable and trouble free login with multiple drive mappings, and this with a client not officially meant for use with SLED 10. See if you can find novell-client-1.2-SLE10.tar.gz on Novell.com, it certainly works with SLED, if you manually enter your context. ConsoleOne 1.3.6f for Linux also plays nicely under SLED 10, once you have tracked down GroupWise snapins for Linux.

I have not yet tried the above client with Slackware 11.0 but I'm guessing that like previous efforts we've both no doubt tried, there will be multiple dependency issues.

My servers are still on NetWare 6.5, with the intention of moving them over to OES when version 2 is stable, and so native file access may be a way forward. Samba on your NetWare boxes may be another.

PM me if you cannot easily find the above client.

Good luck!

Kind regards,

dkpw
