Graphical login not starting on Slackware 14.1 x64

Hey everyone!

I had a perfect working Slackware 14.1 x64 desktop but haven't used it for a while. Today while trying to boot it up, KDM doesn't start. All I get is a black screen. I have exchanged my GPU recently and I think that's the problem.

Can I get some tips for getting my system to boot into runlevel 1, 2 or 3. I've tried switching to to a virtual terminal when the screen was blank but that didn't do anything. At LILO prompt I booted up as "linux emergeny" but my keyboard doesn't work to be able to input my root password when prompted.

I've tried searching for a solution but I don't know what's worse Duckduckgo or my searching skills.

With Lilo you can specify the runlevel as a boot options, Hit escape and enter in the boot prompt: <whatever you labeled slackware> <whatever runlevel you want>

You could boot the installation media, mount your filesystem in a chroot, and edit /etc/inittab. Here are instructions:

I have tried to specify the runlevel in LILO adding in the prompt Linux 3 or Linux single (Linux is the lable for Slackware) and it appears that there is a problem with the screen config file (guess). Even if I tell it the runlevel the screen gets blank. It happened to me before at my first Slackware install, because my laptop monitor is 4K. When I pluged in a secondary 1080p monitor it booted nicely.

Probably going to try out the other suggestion from Montagdude and will try to chroot into my filesystem.

You can try top pass "vga=normal" and/or "nomodeset" to the kernel.

I have combined the commands in LILO including single "Linux single vga=normal nomodeset". With it I did come to the CLI login prompt and during the boot saw an error about the Nvidia driver not supporting the video card so I guess I just have to update the Nvidia driver.

Thanks all of you guys, I think I'll manage from here!
