Question Grandia II on Steam Direct3D error

I hate to ask but I just can't figure out why it refuses to play? I know it runs on Fedora 30 but cannot get it to run on Slackware 14.2 multilib... as soon as it starts it has a error that says "Cannot Initialize Direct3D Device"
I searched online but found nothing and started Steam in the Terminal but didn't see any thing that I could figure out.
It's not really important because I've played it multiple times on my Sega Dreamcast but wanted to replay it again and see if there is anything added to the Anniversary Edition.

What version of wine are you using on Fedora. Have you tried running the same version of wine on Slackware? You might in addition to checking out what version of wine is being used on Fedora; see how Fedora's wine was compiled etc.

Well its kind of neat you got it to work on Fedora. I would guess then it has something to do with the different graphics stacks.

I never got this game to work right in wine or in proton / steam. I even tried it on a friends windows 10 machine (didn't work there either). Hopefully someone can offer something more helpful then I did.

Thanks anyway, maybe Slackware 15 will have the Drivers or whatever Fedora has, weird we can't get it to run even though it has a gold rating for Proton.
I do know it's not my laptop hardware because I had Fedora Installed temporary just for a test and it ran fine except the text was slower than the voice's.
The Linux Kernel is the same so it's not that either.

Not being familiar with the game (or doing this kind of stuff on Slackware for that matter) I can't be of much help, but in most cases the difference between distros is that you're missing a dependency on the one where something doesn't work.

Can you run other games in this manner on your setup? Do you have the correct 32 bit Mesa libraries, for example? I've seen silly problems like missing 32 bit gnutls cause games to abort with misleading error messages too (though that doesn't sound relevent in this case, just an example of something you wouldn't expect)

Perhaps take a look at a Slackware Wine install and install all the dependencies it requires. That's what I do on *buntu or archaroo distros (for example)... install Wine packages on the system just to get most of the dependencies automatically installed for games and game clients, even though I have no intention of using it, but using Wine/Proton on Steam and Wine runner environments in Lutris.

Can you try running the 32-bit glxgears, does that work?

Code:
/usr/bin/32/glxgears
The error is indicative of something broken or missing in your multilib graphics stack.

I ran it and it showed 3 spinning gears.

So it seems your multilib mesa is not entirely broken. What video card and driver are you using?

Have you tried any of the workarounds listed on winehq? One of the issues listed seems like it might be what you are experiencing.
