GPM not working with emacs
I originally posted this in the software forum, but then I thought it might get a better answer here. I'm using Slackware 14.1 32 bit with the default versions of emacs and gpm (24.3.1) and (1.20.7). GPM works fine in the console, but when I try to enable it in emacs with 'M-x gpm-mouse-mode', the minibuffer says 'Autoloading failed to define function gpm-mouse-mode'. Does anybody know what is going wrong?

What does "M-x customize-variable RET gpm-mouse-mode RET" (with pressing the return key for RET) tell you?

Ah.
There's a t-mouse.el that's part of the gpm package that really needs to go away.
As root...
Code:
rm /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/t-mouse.el
...and restart emacs. The gpm mouse should Just Work(TM).

Thanks, I removed t-mouse.el, and now it seems to toggle the minor mode properly. I've never used a mouse with emacs before, and I was hoping to be able to use the menu-bar with it. Am I missing something, or is that not possible?

I don't think that it's possible after a quick experiment or two.

With this latest version of gpm it no longer pastes text into emacs; either the cursor moves to the bottom of text and marks everything between its starting point and new location or emacs reports an unrecognized mouse command. If I disable gpm-mouse-mode (which I figured out how to make the default in .emacs) then pasting works.

*shrugs* Well, poprocks, you're missing out on a lot of functionality that runs on linux, windows, and macs.
