Got X working

Except for my resolution, I ran xf86 config, but my resolution still stayed at 1280x1024. Oh well, now that I have Slackware, I don't really even use X that much. But, could anyone tell me if they've had a similar problem, just for the expiernce of getting it resolved? My hardware is:
Compaq MV720 monitor, at a native 1024x768 resolution, I don't know what my H and V refresh rate ranges are, but it would be nice to have them at 68.7k and 85Hz. (these values are supported by my monitor)
Geforce FX 5200 somethingx AGP 128 MB GPU
And whatever version of XFree86 that comes with 9.1.

Well done on getting it all running - this is your first successful install, isn't it?

Anyway, open your XF86Config file and find where the resolutions are, you'll need to either uncomment the 1024x768 line or just add it in, making sure it is the first option. Restart X and voila, all sorted.

VertRefresh 50.0 -90.0

thats my config (usually works for other monitors)..... check the back of your monitor or you laptop manual for the right H/V rates.
