Finally got sound!

Did a fresh compile of kernel 2.6.10 by compiling the respective ALSA module (intel) *into* the kernel rather than as a loadable module.

A little bit of a quick fix but works nonetheless.

To be honest: I couldn't make head or tail of it masand

I am not good at reading config files, but I could figure out the right options in make xconfig.

Thanks for your help.

with make xconfig they become more easy to be read in the qt interface

anyway it works for you now !

Yes. The QT interface was a pleasant surpise. With 2.4 kernel it was a lot uglier!
