Yes still be read.
I meant precisely about rename 50-user.conf link in /etc/fonts/conf.d/ not in /etc/fonts/ strictly.

Mainly 57...Dejavu.conf-s overriding some webs where Dejavu is replaced by Droid by custom settings.

PS.I compiled freetype 2.6.5 for Slack14.2 with "SUBPIXEL_HINTING 2" and it does better with custom conf than without it IMHO and maybe better than with Infinality although you can not change styles.
