This morning's mail brought three Slackware Security updates.
Thought I'd do a little write-up about how I do those just in case it might help somebody get through the process -- a How I Doit Toit.
With the kernel and mariadb being updated I take the system to single user mode (with
init 1 to get everything shut down clenly).
I do manual downloads and updates, I like the control it gives me and I see what's going on while I'm doing it, so...
Code:
su - (or log in as root)
I have multiple machines, so I keep patches in the same place on all of them; one download to rule them all,
scp to the other boxes.
Code:
cd /usr/local/patches
I prefer to keep kernel patches in a subdirectory.
Code:
mkdir linux-3.10.17-2
cd linux-3.10.17-2
I use
wget and the mirror at OSUOSL -- really fast dowloads -- your mirror selection may vary.
Go get 'em
Code:
wget ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware64-14.1/patches/packages/linux-3.10.17-2/*
Back up one directory and remove any prior versions of the other patches (there aren't any but just in case) then get the new ones
Take the system to single-user
Code:
init 1
log in as root
cd /usr/local/patches
upgradepkg *.t?z
cd linux*
upgradepkg *.t?z
All that
wget... stuff is in my KornShell history and I simply do a quick command line edit and change the package name (don't know how you do command line editing in BASH, though, sorry).
Last step is run
lilo, no errors, so back to multiuser:
All is well that ends.
Hope this helps some.
