gnome-pkgtool-0.5.2-i586-1.tgz ?
Hi all, i was compiling from the normal source code from knome.org and few errors but it was still going. However i felt more and more that there was gonna be lots of problems, so i searched for an easier option i found "gnome-pkgtool-0.5.2-i586-1.tgz"
Read about it and installed in about 5 secs then gave the cursor. Anyone know what im supposed to be doing at this stage ? Oh, installpkg message:
Code:
root@user>installpkg gnome-pkgtool-0.5.2-i586-1.tgz
Installing package gnome-pkgtool-0.5.2-i586-1...
PACKAGE DESCRIPTION:
gnome-pkgtool: gnome-pkgtool (GNOME Slackware Package Manager)
Executing install script for gnome-pkgtool-0.5.2-i586-1...
<root@user>
no errors :/
Any help / advice very appreciated.

After you install a Slackware package you supposedly can use it at that point. I would try running it...gnome-pkgtool, and see what happens...

I'm confused.
Why are you trying to install a Gnome-based GUI front-end to pkgtool on a system that does not have Gnome?
The fact that you are missing libgnomeui-2.so.0 would seem to imply that you have not installed one of the 3'rd party Gnome environments for Slackware.
Even if you had, and this product worked, what does it do that the ncurses pkgtool does not?
If you are determined to install this you may find it has so many Gnome dependencies that you might as well install Freerock or one of the other Gnome-Slackware solutions out there.
You may wish to do the following:
$ ldd /path/to/gnome-pkgtool (i.e. /usr/bin/gnome-pkgtool)
This will list the required libraries and how many are missing. You will at least know what you need to install.

What, I believe, Dave is searching for is an easy way to get Gnome onto his system without compiling it all by hand from source, not help with gnome-pkgtool.
Dave, to get Gnome into a Slack system without doing it by hand you have a few options, run a search here at LQ for "gnome" in the Slackware forum and have a look around and see what you find. You might find this thread ( http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ighlight=gnome) handy. Do as Satinet suggests and google the 3rd party programs he's listed - that should get you up on your feet =)
- Piete.
