GNOME For Slackware / GNOME From Scratch (GNOME 40.2)

Hi, guys. I have a project I call GNOME From Scratch / GNOME for Slackware (gfs).
I recently updated my project, where I compiled the GNOME 40.
If you want to experiment, go to project page:

https://github.com/slackport/gfs

There you will have information on how to install the precompiled packages (GNOME For Slackware)
or compile them from source using SlackBuild scripts (GNOME From Scratch).
The packages are stored at http://slackware.uk (Thanks, Tedgy, for all the help and support):

http://slackware.uk/gfs/

We have 298 lovingly crafted packages out there, and I would very much like you to test this out.
Any questions please contact me via email or via the #slackware.uk channel on irc.libera.chat.

Cheers,

great!

Have you considered joining forces with Dropline? As far as I remember, it's only saxa at the moment who's working on it.

The idea sounds good, but dropline uses DBS (Dropline Build System), which is not based on SlackBuilds, and I prefer writing SlackBuilds because it looks more modern and clearer to anyone reading it.

I appreciate the suggestion. Thank you.

Is this GFS capable to run on Wayland?

And, congratulation for your hard work!

Yes it is, I use "-Dwayland=true" whenever possible, but wayland is still a bit of a headache sometimes.

Dropline uses its own build system, which does not feature the use of SlackBuilds.
I prefer writing in SlackBuilds because it's modern and clear for anyone who wants to read it.
But thanks for your suggestion.

Hiya Rafael,

I have crated an issue just to show my solution.

Hi! I'm taking my last graduation exams, and I don't have time to sort it out right now. But most likely I will update the project to version 40.6 or newer.

Thank you so much for letting me know.

All scripts bellow that have "ok" are modified scripts and can build successfully the latest stable official release of every project.
Files that have"okold" dont needed any modification because no new release has been on project`s repositories.

WRONG files are not a big problem, we can use the old releases from gfs/slackbuilds and everything works fine, I have a full Gnome42 desktop everything works fine, except the bigest Slackware enemy GDM
but ok I can use startx even on runlevel 4 . (I hope someday someone packet GDM to an AppImage, so it will not understand that it ir running on Slackware system and boot.. )

Now what is the point of all these?
First of all, I m wondering if SlackBuilds would be intresting to have some of the "ok" scripts? (That is the most important for my opinion)

Second, ok "I have" my Gnome 42 uptodate (really speaking, Fedora will not have all these new releases) but I dont want to keep it for my self, I fork slackports/gfs but I dont know how I have to manage github, what I have to do... (remeber I m a farmer...) Can I change my forked slackbord/gfs as I want? If yes I can sent pull? If someone explain me...
So what you think I have to do with all these updated/patched scripts so they can be usefull for others Slackware users?
@lancsuk I want to send you all these scripts for your gitlab... you can make them more profesional.

Third, is anyone interesting to help with 'WRONG" scripts?

And the last one: If SlackBuilds are intrestings for some scripts, how can I know? Because thoese scripts must be re-writen to SlackBuild official way..

Thank you.

The work will be less than you think. Many from both okold and WRONG lists already have SlackBuilds at SBo, so there's nothing to do for them (but maybe check the versions are compatible).

Between the release of Slackware-15.0 and reopening of SBo, I had SlackBuilds for gnome-builder and all its dependencies ready to submit. In the meantime I stopped using gnome-builder and deleted the related SlackBuilds from my filesystem just this weekend. I could possibly exhume them using my local git history if you proceed with your project and still need them.
