hi,
I have just install slackware 14.By default kDE is installed in it.I want to use Gnome desktop. Please can you guide me that how can I enable or install it in slackware?
2-My second problem is how can i keep short cut icons like recycle bin ,home folder etc etc in kdE desktop environment.
GNOME SlackBuild is unmaintained and runs only on Slackware 13.37. If you want Gnome 3, then Dropline Gnome (see the link by solarfields) is the way to go.
<edit> You have to download an installer package, install it and follow the instructions provided on the website. Please note that I can't give you first-hand advice, as I don't use it. I hope this helps anyway.

Note that release 3.14 is still alpha, hence it might «not work right out of the box». Unless you want to test it's probably safer to use the installer available here: http://www.droplinegnome.org/#download
@gardenair,
I don't mean to sound condescending, but you are a member since 2004 with 581 posts under your belt ...
Surely, you have to be aware that as default, slackware does not support the gnome desktop (as such).
This doesn't mean it can't be installed and run well - but you do have to 'jump through some hoops' in order to do so.
With your (more or less) obvious experience - I honestly can't look at your post other than a weak attempt at trolling ...

Not that it adds any value to the OP's requirement; but there are some of us who have been on the periphery of action and not able to become proficient with using Linux, and Slackware especially, for a variety of reasons : lack of time, not being clever enough etc.
There's very little in cleverness with Slackware. All Slackware asks is that you read documentation and be willing to ask questions if you run into problems, but equally learn by doing using those information gathering methods to do for yourself.
Mostly, the best thing you can do is take notes. Your own documentation is the key to advancement.
I think it's just that the OP is not very familiar with slackware. On his profile page there is a link to a conversation talking about a yum repository, so maybe he is genuinely in the dark about what to do.
Good on you gardenair (if that is indeed the case)! If you are used to more mainstream distributions slackware can take a bit of getting used to. But you will be happy you made the effort!
You need to restore the shadow package before you logout.
UPDATE : upgradepkg shadow did not help me. I had to remove the package {it was i686, which I suspect was installed by Dropline} and reinstalled the x86_64 version. I am able to login now.
The QA testing on Dropline seems to be dismal.
Best
