Gnome 2.6 freeze, slackware-current, Xorg
I upgraded to gnome 2.6 (from slackware-current), using swaret, seems to work but there is a small problem. I'm using gdm and can login to gnome as a normal user. however if i try to login to gnome as root it actually stops (i get gnome splash screen but those funny icons showing progess do not appear).
i removed all gnome/gtk settings for root and cleaned /tmp. the same happens when i start X by startx any ideas? |
have you checked the error log?

i have, but nothing found
|
i recently had a similar problem with kde and a normal user...
think it had something to do with mcop-dcop-Xauthority and/or corruption with uid-group-passwd-shadow a backup of my files, complete removal of the user, and re-adding that user cleared it up however, i'm not sure how wise it would be to try to delete root... |
lol :)

ok i found this:
stderr is not a tty - where are you? SESSION_MANAGER=local/maciek:/tmp/.ICE-unix/22076 gnome-smproxy: unable to connect to session manager |
check your /root/.ICEauthority file with an editor
there will be two lines that have that session-manager info they should match if not, delete /root/.ICEauthority (i just tested it on a normal user that was mismatched) and it will recreate itself to function properly on the next login |
