gnome 1.x on Slackware 12.0?
 

Hello people.

I have to install an older program I made for my wife's pharmacy on another machine. I installed Slackware 12.0, then realized the program was still written using gtk 1.4. It's quite a specialized thing, and I never had the time to rewrite it into gtk 2...

I have both gtk families installed on all other machines, so it's possible. I tried to find the necessary packages for 12.0, but found none. I tried to compile ORBit 0.5.17, before compiling the gnome-libs, but it fails on:

'Multiple definition of 'allow_severity'"
and
'Multiple definition of 'deny_severity'"

Both are redefined in connection.lo and weak_symbols.lo
I have no idea where weak_sumbols.lo comes from (didn't find any mention of it in any file in the ORBit tree.

How do I go about installing the necessary gnome 1.x files?

I have a fairly complete set of the old gnome-1.4 libs. In fact I recently tried to re-compile them under slack-11 or slack-12 and had the same problem you are having with orbit. Since orbit is barely the first thing needed it's kind of a show-stopper. However, having installed the compiled libs that I had made long ago, I was able to re-compile some of the other stuff. I don't have the complete set of libs and almost none of the apps, but if you like I'll upload what I have to my site.
I used to have them on my site but a crash a few months ago at ibiblio wiped everything out and I haven' gotten around to re-uploading them. There was enough of the libs, etc to be able to run the old abiword and gnumeric. If that is not enough you may be able to add what you need by compiling them from source. You probably need to use an older compiler though.
Do you know eaxctly which libs are needed by the program. If some are missing from what I have and it's not too many I could try re-compiling them for you.

Hi guys.

Reading my mail again, I should have mentioned it's the compiling that caused the problem, of course. I didn't solve that, but what I did was
copying the executable directly to the new machine, and I checked which libraries were missing.

I only needed one (don't recall which). After installing, everything worked. So it seems Slack 12.0 has a decent set of gtk 1.x libraries included, at least for apps.

I thought you said gnome-1.x
Yes Slackware still has GTK-1.2. The only thing that has been recently dropped was the gdk-pixbuf-0.22.0 which is used by lots of GTK-1.2 apps. If you run across any thing that still needs that you can just install the package from slack-11.0.
