github tls error, 13.37

my workbench machine has 13.37. i needed to clone a github repo and received the following error:

Code:
error: error:1407742E:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:tlsv1 alert protocol version while accessing http://github.com/pfalcon/esp-open-sdk/info/refs

fatal: HTTP request failed
from what i've been able to google, this is caused by an outdated library. but i'm unable to determine exactly what needs to be updated.

are there patches/updates to correct this issue?

thank you for the assistance.
