gimp & Jpeg

I've downloaded from slackware current all of the following:

glib2-2.6.1
gtk+2-2.6.1
Pango1.8.0
Gimp 2.2.3

All installed fine and seem to run fine too. But with gimp there I cannot open a jpeg file, nor can I save a different file as a jpeg. There is no mention of jpeg in the plugin list either.

I really don't know where to go next. How can I work with jpegs in Gimp2.2.3?

Forgive me but after nearly 2 hours of trying thing I figure the answer 5 mins after posting this thread.

Something must have been wrong with the jpeg plugin that came with gimp 2.2.3 in /usr/lib/gimp/2.0 so I reinstalled gimp 2.0.2, coppied the jpeg plugin from that installation, re-installed gimp2.2.3, and replaced 2.2.3's jpeg plugin with 2.0.2's.

All seems to work fine now.

packages from "current" aren't really expected to work (out-of-the-box) with "stable" releases... if you need gimp 2.2.3 on your slack 10.0, for example, you would be better-off by using a package made specially for slack 10.0, like from linuxpackges.net...

anyways, it's cool that you were able to work-around the issue on your own...

=)
