Gigabit NIC Driver problem

Hi,

I installed Slackware 9.1 , and I have a problem.
The kernel does not support my NIC (SMC9462TX) by default, so I downloaded the drivers from the SMC site. Those were not compatible with my kernel (they were made for 2.4.2) so I tried the following:

I was able to do a "make all", but when I tried an "insmod smc94x2.o" (included in ZIP driver package) I get the message:
Quote:

"Warning: loading smc94x2.o will taint the kernel: no license
See [ url ] for information about tainted modules"
And SlackWare crashed :) (can't type anything anymore, reacts on nothing)

After rebooting (hardware reboot, CTRL-ALT-DEL didn't work), "insmod smc94x2.o" gives an error: not a valid ELP file (or something)

What did I do wrong?
What do I have to do to make this work? (I've been searching for days now)

Thanks!
