getting updated packages
once i get slack 8.1 installed from the official disk, what is the easiest way to make sure i get all the updated packages i need? i don't understand how the directories are organized under slackware-current.
thanks |
I would look into Swaret. It is a very nice tool when used properly. You can get it here...http://freshmeat.net/projects/swaret...c_id=147%2C253
Also, check out this thread for more important information....http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ghlight=swaret |
thanks!
so, if i install the current packages, will it be equivalent to 9.0? |
one more question
will i have to do anything beyond this to upgrade to 9.0?

As long as you properly update the packages, you'll essentially be running 9.0. Just take heed to which packages need to be upgraded before others (glibc-solibs, and pkgtools). Sometimes, you'll need to check some of your configurations in /etc. On the ftp sites, in the slackware tree, there is an UPGRADE.TXT file that has some additional info.

When using swaret, make sure you read FAQ first! it tell you about the 3 file you must update first before you can start updating the rest of the packages....
