Getting slackware 9.1 to use 2.6 on install

I am interested in using the 2.6 kernal, I really just havn't gotten around to the long list of things I need to do before I even want to bother with recompiling with that. I am going to wipe my current HD(so easy to back up since everything important is in the home directory, and I save all install files :)) and compleatly re-install with 9.1 (using 9.0 now) and then recompile with 2.6 If I can get slackware to install with 2.6 that would really make my life easier cause it's two computers of my own I'm updating and a friends and two of my schools, and if I can get my hardware and troubleshooting teacher to accept my classmates will be installing it also.
Any help is appreciated.

From the Slackware site...

The latest release of Slackware is now online. Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible!

Release highlights include support for ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture, which will be the default in the upcoming 2.6.x kernel series), GCC 3.2.3 (with GCC 3.3.1 as an alternate choice), GNOME 2.4.0, and KDE 3.1.4. Slackware 9.1 uses the stable 2.4.22 kernel, but is 2.6.x ready.

I don't believe you can get it to use the 2.6 kernel on install. However, I recently started using 2.6 (currently using 2.6-test8). I was shocked at how easy it is with make xconfig. I was more shocked when it compiled just fine. Needless to say I was nothing short of stunned when it actually booted.

It didn't take long to compile on my (admittedly slowish) Athlon 850 w/256MB RAM. I think one problem with pre-built kernels (like you may get when installing an OS) is that they have all kinds of stuff built-in (mostly modular though) that is meant to make it runnable on many different types of machines.

It would appear that I have gained some speed by cutting out some of the *fluff* that I don't need for my particular setup. But this may just be a case of "I changed something and it FEELS faster."

Hehe...I know what you mean. Kinda like when you get done washing the car it seems to run better. :D

I recently changed from the standard slackware 9.1 kernel to 2.6 test-7. Window Maker didn't only feel faster, it was faster! I even had to lower the speed on the mouse so i could navigate!

Hmm....

I figured it ran faster, just didn't want to say it since I was worried about my perceptual thing. Along the line of what gOO$e said, when I change the oil in my car I would swear that it gained 10hp lol.

You wouldn't be dr_van_nostrand from the "clinic" would you? (Seinfeld is awesome:p )
