Getting reject when trying to connect via ppp.

Hello!

Im getting a reject when trying to connect to the internet via ppp, the message is as follows as seen on the commandline after running 'ppp-go'.

Code:

Recieved bad configure-nak/rej: 12 06 00 00 01
I also see this message in '/var/log/syslog'.
I assume it has something to do with my configuration? Ive never had problems setting up ppp before, I know its not my ISP, im am using it now.
Its recognizing and initiating my modem, dialing out, authenticating and once it prints the local and remote address is when it happens. Also of note is that fact I spent 2 hours online last nite with the same configuration, sometimes I get the message, sometimes not. I really cant imagine what the problem could be. If anyone here has every experienced similar I would appreaciate a heads up to what the error above means/possible solutions.

Thanks, Tarts.

I After not being able to connect all today, I tried 'kppp', set it up, and it worked fine. I then tried again with 'ppp-go' and I got the same message, but was able to ping out to site's?

Traced it back to a post on the kernel mailinglist. Seems you should check if your modem init string contains "&Q6" which seems to turn off v42bis, which you need to turn on.

My init string does not contain that. I solved the problem by enabling the 'ip_forwarding' service for startup, then I re-ran pppsetup, the message is now gone. Im not quite used to the start up services enabling/disabling feature of 9.1.

Here are my startup services:

rc.bind
rc.cups
rc.inetd
rc.ip_forward
rc.pcmcia
rc.sendmail

Since startup sevices is a new installation feature of 9.1, it had to be the problem...it was.
